At some point in each of our lives we are faced with a choice; to either live in fear and self-doubt, or to accept ourselves and move forward. In this chair that choice is made functional, one side curls the body inward and leads to discomfort while the other side supports and lifts the body to look out into the world. When this choice is given the form of a chair, the answer to how we should choose to live becomes obvious.
This chair is based on an exploration of my own personal narrative paired with the ideals of the Futurist art movement of the early 20th century. Likes the Futurists, I chose to abandon the past and look towards my future instead. This chair was created in Hank Richardson's Design History class at the Portfolio Center.
